Director Ruben Fleischer, the visionary behind the Zombieland franchise, is eyeing a return to the post-apocalyptic world, and the news is both exciting and… well, a bit of a wait! After a decade-long gap between the original Zombieland (released in 2009) and its sequel, Zombieland: Double Tap (2019), Fleischer has his sights set on Zombieland 3, aiming for a 2029 release. That's right, folks, another ten years!
Fleischer shared his plans with Deadline, stating, "I’m hoping that we’ll do a Zombieland 3 in 2029." He added that discussions are already underway, fueled by the established decade-long intervals between films.
But here's where it gets interesting: Jesse Eisenberg, one of the original stars, seems just as eager to return to the zombie-slaying action. While promoting his new release, Eisenberg mentioned his enthusiasm for Zombieland 3, acknowledging the unique, long-term nature of the franchise. He humorously noted that more Now You See Me sequels are likely before another Zombieland film. The core cast, including Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin, all reprised their roles in the sequel, hinting at the potential for a full reunion.
Beyond the undead, Fleischer is also brewing up something completely different. He's got his heart set on a vampire Western! He described it as "a classic Western with a vampire at the center of it. Like Unforgiven, if Clint Eastwood was a vampire." Talk about a genre mash-up! He expressed his lifelong dream of directing both a gangster movie and a Western, and it seems this project could fulfill the latter.
