Get ready, Beatles fans! A groundbreaking cinematic event is on the horizon, promising to delve deeper into the lives of the Fab Four than ever before. Sam Mendes and Sony are crafting a four-part series of biopics that will explore The Beatles from each band member's unique perspective. And the cast is expanding, bringing in key figures from their inner circle.
Joining the project are some familiar faces. David Morrissey, known for his role in "The Walking Dead," will portray Paul McCartney's father, Jim McCartney. Leanne Best from "Walk-In" will play John Lennon's Aunt Mimi, a significant figure in his early life. Bobby Schofield, from "The Covenant," is set to play Neil Aspinall, the band's trusted road manager and confidant. Daniel Hoffmann-Gill will portray roadie Mal Evans, while Arthur Darvill takes on the role of Derek Taylor, the press officer and friend. And, adding a touch of controversy, Adam Pally will play Allen Klein, the band's sometimes-controversial music manager.
But here's where it gets interesting: Harry Lloyd, of "The Theory of Everything," is confirmed to play George Martin, the legendary music producer who shaped The Beatles' sound. Furthermore, James Norton will portray Brian Epstein, the influential manager who played a crucial role in their success.
The casting process continues, with announcements expected soon for other central characters, including Cynthia Lennon and Ravi Shankar.
These new additions join the already announced lead actors: Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harrison Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. Plus, Saoirse Ronan, Anna Sawai, Aimee Lou Wood, and Mia McKenna-Bruce will portray Linda McCartney, Yoko Ono, Pattie Boyd, and Maureen Starkey, respectively.
The four films, produced by Sony and Mendes' Neal Street Productions, are currently in production. Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne are writing the scripts, with Mendes directing all four films and producing alongside Pippa Harris, Julie Pastor, and Alexandra Derbyshire.
The series is slated for a full theatrical release in April 2028.
