Macau Grand Prix: Davey Todd's Dominant Victory
English rider Davey Todd dominated the Macau motorcycle Grand Prix on Saturday, securing a commanding win over his competitors.
The Yorkshire native finished a full 10 seconds ahead of his Zeeco 8TEN Racing BMW teammate, Peter Hickman, with Finnish rider Erno Kostamo, also on a BMW, trailing in third place, 14 seconds behind.
Todd's control of the 12-lap race on the 3.8-mile Guia circuit was evident, as he managed the gap between himself and his rivals, resulting in a decisive victory.
Not only did Todd claim the win, but he also set the fastest lap of the race, clocking in at 2 minutes and 23.702 seconds, just slightly slower than Stuart Easton's 15-year-old record of 2:23.616 seconds.
The 30-year-old, a three-time Isle of Man TT winner, had a unique path to victory. Last year, he was awarded the win based on his fastest qualifying time, as the race was canceled due to extreme weather conditions caused by a passing typhoon.
This triumph marks a successful year for Todd on public road circuits. He achieved a hat-trick of victories at the North West 200, a Superbike race win at the TT, and secured top honors in the feature race at the Southern 100.
Hickman, a four-time Macau GP winner, initially battled for second place with Kostamo, the 2022 winner. However, Kostamo's performance took a turn as he lost several positions after overshooting at the Lisboa section of the circuit, eventually settling for the final podium spot.
Rob Hodson, a Wigan rider, achieved his best finish at the event, securing fourth place. Swiss rider Lukas Maurer and Italy's Maurizio Bottalico completed the top six.
The top 10 was rounded out by Australian David Johnson, New Zealand newcomer Mitch Rees, Manx rider Michael Evans, and England's Phil Crowe.
Unfortunately, Northern Ireland's Paul Jordan, Michael Sweeney from the Republic of Ireland, and England's Sam West all retired from the race, while the remaining 17 riders completed the event.
