First Look: The Dream-Like Lucas Museum of Narrative Art by MAD Architects in LA (2025)

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, a 'dream-like' architectural marvel, is nearing completion in Los Angeles. Designed by the Chinese studio MAD, the museum is set to open its doors in September 2026. With a unique, rounded structure clad in fibreglass-reinforced polymer (FRP) panels, it promises to be a striking addition to the city's skyline. The museum's design, led by Ma Yansong, features a massive arch and an oculus, creating a distinctive landmark. The building's biomorphic form, described as an 'organic sculptural form', will house two theatres, classrooms, galleries, shops, and cafes, offering an immersive experience. The museum's construction has been a significant undertaking, using 1,500 FRP panels and an impressive 118,000 cubic yards of concrete. Initially planned for Chicago, the museum's final location in Los Angeles was decided due to local opposition and space constraints. The museum's opening will not only add to Los Angeles' architectural legacy but also enhance Exposition Park's green space with hundreds of newly planted trees.
