Europe's Judo Triumphs at the Zagreb Grand Prix's Opening Day

The IJF World Tour made a triumphant return to Croatia's capital, Zagreb, for the inaugural day of the 2025 Zagreb Grand Prix. The Arena Zagreb buzzed with excitement as young, judo-enthusiastic fans witnessed their idols in action.
In the -48 kg category, Eva PEREZ SOLER secured her first Grand Prix gold medal, outshining Laura ESPADINHA with two yuko scores.
IJF President, Mr. Marius VIZER, presented the medals, adding to the event's prestige.
The -60 kg final was a French affair, with Enzo JEAN facing off against Romain VALADIER PICARD. JEAN's strategic counter-attack secured him the gold, decided by a single yuko in the final minute of the match.
Mr. Vladimir BARTA, IJF Head Sport Director, bestowed the medals upon JEAN, recognizing his prowess.
At -52 kg, Distria KRASNIQI demonstrated her dominance, outmaneuvering all opponents, including her long-standing rival Reka PUPP in the final. This victory extended KRASNIQI's head-to-head record against the Hungarian to an impressive 8-1.
Mr. Mohammed MERIDJA, IJF Education & Coaching Director, presented her with the medal, acknowledging her exceptional skills.
Spain's David GARCIA TORNE claimed a thrilling victory in the -66 kg category against Italy's Elios MANZI, employing his signature unorthodox style to devastating effect.
Ms. Tina TRSTENJAK, IJF Referee Director, awarded the medals, highlighting the high caliber of the competition.
In the -57 kg division, the home favorite, Ana Viktorija PULJIZ, faced the top seed, Marica PERISIC. PERISIC's strength prevailed, securing her third Grand Prix gold medal.
Dr. Sanda CORAK, Croatian Judo Federation President, presented the gold medal to PERISIC, acknowledging her prowess.
The Croatian team's strong performance on day one bodes well for the upcoming middleweight division, featuring renowned stars vying for gold.
